Icing waveguide strength problem

چکیده

Abstract In this paper, we conduct research of the waveguide strength under icing. Icing is assumed to be uniform along perimeter and length waveguide, so ice deposits considered in form an equivalent increase density structure. As a result, icing problem reduced gravitational bending waveguide. Waveguide has thin-walled rectangular cross-section; therefore, solution demand using theory plate. We model 4 plates that made it possible obtain analytical according plate theory. Also, makes identify features stress distribution both height cross-section refine results comparison with beams. The calculation developed method compared data obtained beam theory, which show good convergence showed convergence.

Anti-icing superhydrophobic coatings.

We use nanoparticle-polymer composites to demonstrate the anti-icing capability of superhydrophobic surfaces and report direct experimental evidence that such surfaces are able to prevent ice formation upon impact of supercooled water both in laboratory conditions and in natural environments. We find that the anti-icing capability of these composites depends not only on their superhydrophobicit...

Torque and Axial Loading Physics for Measuring Atmospheric Icing Load and Icing Rate

Measuring icing load and icing rate are important parameters for an atmospheric icing sensor. A new icing sensor has recently been designed and developed at Narvik University College for measuring atmospheric icing rate, icing load and icing type. Unlike the existing atmospheric icing sensors commercially available in market, which uses the axial loading for measuring icing load and icing rate,...

The Propagation Problem in a Bi-isotropic Waveguide

We investigate the problem of defining propagating constants and modes in metallic waveguides of an arbitrary cross section, filled with a homogeneous bi-isotropic material. The approach follows the guidelines of the classical theory for the isotropic, homogeneous, lossless waveguide: starting with the Maxwell system, we formulate a spectral problem where the square of the propagation constant ...

The Waveguide Eigenvalue Problem and the Tensor Infinite Arnoldi Method

We present a new computational approach for a class of large-scale nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEPs) that are nonlinear in the eigenvalue. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. We derive a new iterative algorithm for NEPs, the tensor infinite Arnoldi method (TIAR), which is applicable to a general class of NEPs, and we show how to specialize the algorithm to a specific NEP: the wavegui...

De-icing/Anti-icing Techniques for Power Lines: Current Methods and Future Direction

Atmospheric icing may be problematic for many industries, including electric utilities. The combination of wind and ice could cause damages, sometimes leading to power outages. The January 1998 ice storm has led to the development of several de-icing methods destined to overhead power lines. These techniques are the subject of several technical reports and publications. Furthermore, in the past...
